Mud Server Projects

AeMud?

AeMud? is an acronym for Arbitrarily Expandable Multi User Domain. AeMud? has been strongly influenced by dikumuds, and the player-mud interface looks about the same, from the players point of view.

(NOTE: Geocities has gone permanently offline, this site is available via ReoCities? at http://www.reocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/9025/aindex.html -- 1/1/2010)

Dusk

An Open source graphical MUD server and client.

The home page can be found at https://sourceforge.net/projects/duskrpg/.

Euphony

A science-fiction text-based adventure game, with RPG elements. Coded in C++, it will feature object oriented programming and design, easy expansion and customization, thoroughly documented code, and an entertainment experience rivaling that of a well written novel.

The home page can be found at http://conceptual.virtualave.net/euphony/intro.htm.

Mesh Project

The Mesh project was formed to create an open source modular mud codebase along with a library of useful mud related modules. Come on over and help out at MeshWiki:MeshWiki

MudZilla?

MUDzilla is a universe modeling tool designed for multi-user, networked environments, using the World Wide Web and TELNET as the primary user interfaces.

The home page can be found at http://mudzilla.com/.

PerlMOO?

Perlmoo is a Lambdamoo-like moo, written and extensible in perl. For those of you who are new to moo-ing, a moo is a server for a virtual world, a computer program which users can log into and explore. Each user takes control of a computerized persona/avatar/incarnation/character. You can walk around, chat with other people, and even create your very own rooms, and items. Advanced users can extend perlmoo online by coding new commands in perl.

The home page can be found at http://kitenet.net/programs/perlmoo/

PerlMOO? has been superceeded by Mooix, it can be found at http://mooix.net/ .

Unnamed 3D world system project

Adam Chlipala's interactive multi-user three-dimensional world internet server and client project.

The home page can be found at http://3d.devlocus.org/.

TAMS

TAMS, or the Technologically Advanced Mud Server, is a project designed to create an easy to develop codebase using current technology. In many respects, it resembles the original Merc team's goals in producing a codebase radically different from what they perceived as an overly complicated codebase (Diku). It is being programmed in C++ using the STL, and is currently undergoing a complete class hierarchy revamp. Future plans include storage using XML and MySQL? backend.

The home page can be found at http://tams.slayn.net/.

The DevMUD? Project

The basic idea is to build a MUD server which is well suited to development of experimental MUD features.

The home page can be found at http://frost.slimy.com/devmud/.

MUQ

The If you are a virtual world builder and are sick of trying to do real work with toy tools, Muq may be what you've been looking for.

Muq is animated (among other things) by a desire to construct secure, cooperative, democratic, egalitarian, distributed online communities based on free software and user-owned hardware instead of on proprietary commercial hardware and software.

Muq is not just another chip off the old block, but a total re-analysis, re-design and re-implementation of the mudserver concept by someone who has been mudding for years and implementing compilers, interpreters and software environments for decades.

The home page can be found at http://www.muq.org/.

Scratch

Scratch is written in C++ and runs on both Windows and various *nix platforms. It is ideal for creating your own custom MUD as there is very little game content. Has MySQL? backend.

Interesting Game Projects (Not Traditional Muds)

Crossfire

Crossfire is a multi-player graphical arcade and adventure game made for the X Windows systems environment. It has certain flavours from other games, especially gauntlet and the rogue-like games (Nethack, Moria, Angband, and Ragnarok.) Any number of players can move around in their own window, finding and using items and battling monsters. They can choose to cooperate or compete in the same world.

The home page can be found at http://crossfire.real-time.com/.

CVW

CVW is a collaboration software environment that provides a "virtual building" where teams can communicate, collaborate, and share information, regardless of their geographic location. CVW takes virtual meetings one step further and enables virtual co-location through persistent virtual rooms, each incorporating people, information, and tools appropriate to a task, operation, or service.

The home page can be found at http://cvw.mitre.org/.

Empire

Empire is a simulation game of unique proportions. While it concentrates mostly on the war simulation aspects, it also has economic, political, and other more subtle real-world parallels.

The home page can be found at http://www.empire.cx/.

Free-Civ

Freeciv is a multiplayer strategy game, released under the GNU General Public License.

It is generally comparable with Civilization IIŽ, published by MicroproseŽ.

The home page can be found at http://www.freeciv.org/.

LinCity?
